Basically, for this part of the course, we were split up into "families" and were to live on an Aussie's farm. Our farm mom was Lisa who owned 50,000 acres of land (yes, you read that correctly) and my sisters were Allie, Christina, and Taylor. During this two-day period, we were to observe and interview our mom and analyze what it is like to live off the land. Our farmstay mom was ridiculous (in a good way). She's a very opinionated woman who is very blunt with frequent cursing. She kinda reminds me of my Technical Writing teacher from Tech. It was always a ball hanging out with her. She had a sense of adventure and thrill that went way beyond my own! (which I thought was near impossible). During our very short stay the following activities occurred: 4-wheeling, mustering cattle, horseback riding, fishing, saving men who were "bogged" (stuck in the mud), shooting guns, making breakfast, lunch, dinner and smoko (snack between breakfast and lunch & lunch and dinner), bathing in hot springs, drinking beer, lighting fires (a practice used to regenerate the plants), and meeting Aborigines. This trip was one for the books. It was also really nice to get away from the rest of the group for a bit considering we were all jam packed in a hostel. One morning, Lisa let me an Taylor take one of the quads out for a joy ride. She was surprised to hear that I hit 50km/hr and she was impressed with my "recklessness." Thanks? Some of the experiences I had on this farm are simply indescribable. I'm so grateful to have had such a great opportunity!
Home sweet home
Allie caught an eel!! A few moments later she discovered she had a leech on her butt and wanted a picture of it haha
